I want to share something I’ve been noticing while talking to candidates over the past few weeks.

A lot of people are applying to good roles.

Their resumes are not bad.

Their skills are decent.

But they’re still not getting replies.

And often, the issue isn’t capability.

It’s friction.

Here’s what I mean.

When a recruiter opens your resume, they’re not looking for brilliance.

They’re looking for clarity.

If the role says “Backend Engineer” and your resume headline says “Software Developer” and your projects say “Full Stack Enthusiast”, you’re creating tiny moments of doubt.

Not big red flags.

Just small hesitation.

And in hiring, hesitation is enough to move on.

Before applying to a role, take 3 minutes and check:

Does my headline match the role title wording?

Do 2–3 keywords from the job description appear naturally in my resume?

Is my most relevant project easy to spot at the top?

You’re not lying.

You’re not reshaping your entire profile.

You’re just reducing cognitive effort for the person screening you.

Recruiters go through dozens, sometimes hundreds, of profiles.

The ones that are easiest to place mentally get shortlisted faster.

It’s rarely about dramatic changes.

It’s about removing small confusion points.

Try this for the next 5 applications instead of applying to 25 randomly.

Sometimes small alignment beats volume.
