Here’s a simple exercise you can try that reveals a lot about how your LinkedIn profile looks to others.
Open your profile and scroll to your Experience section.
Now read only the job titles and the first line under each role. Don’t read the rest.
Ask yourself one question:
If someone only reads these few lines, would they understand what kind of work I do?
Many profiles fail this test.
For example, the first line often says something like:
“Worked on multiple projects across different technologies.”
or
“Responsible for various development tasks.”
These lines don’t tell the reader much.
Instead, the first line under a role should quickly show where your time actually goes.
For example:
“Working on backend APIs and database logic for internal tools.”
or
“Preparing weekly SQL reports used by the finance team.”
or
“Handling frontend feature updates and resolving user issues.”
When someone visits your profile, they rarely read everything immediately.
They scan the experience section to understand your role.
If the first line under each position explains the nature of the work clearly, your profile becomes much easier to understand.
And when a profile is easy to understand, people are more likely to continue reading it.
