There’s a pattern I’ve noticed over time.

Two people can have very similar skills.

Similar degrees.

Similar projects.

One gets interviews.

The other doesn’t.

The difference is often not skill.

It’s evidence.

Many resumes describe work like this:

  • Built a dashboard.

  • Worked on APIs.

  • Handled testing.

All of that may be true.

But none of it tells the reader how real that work was.

Here’s what I mean.

When someone reads your resume, they’re not just checking what you did.

They’re asking:

  • Was this part of something real?

  • Was it used?

  • Did it matter to anyone?

You don’t need dramatic numbers to answer that.

Even small context changes everything.

Instead of:

Built an admin panel.

Try:

Built an admin panel used by the internal ops team to manage user access.

Instead of:

Created reports using SQL.

Try:

Created weekly SQL reports shared with the finance team.

Now your work lives somewhere.

It belongs to someone.

It serves a purpose.

That makes it believable.

Most candidates underestimate how powerful context is.

You don’t need to inflate impact.

You just need to show where your work existed.

Before your next application, pick one project and ask:

  • Who used this?

  • How often?

  • Why did it exist?

Add one line that answers that.

Small context often makes the biggest difference.
