Don’t just list what you did — show what actually changed because you did it.
Most resumes say things like “Worked on APIs,” “Did testing,” “Handled frontend components,” and honestly… everyone writes that. It doesn’t tell a recruiter anything about you.
What makes a resume stand out is impact.
Think of it this way: if someone else had done your job, what would they have achieved differently? That difference — even if it feels small — is your value.
For example:
Instead of “Developed backend APIs,” write “Built APIs that cut response time by 30%, improving user experience.”
Instead of “Tested features,” write “Increased test coverage to 85%, which reduced production bugs noticeably.”
Instead of “Worked on a dashboard,” write “Designed a dashboard used daily by 3 internal teams to make faster decisions.”
You don’t need big numbers or fancy metrics.
Even simple outcomes like “improved reliability,” “reduced manual work,” or “made a process 10 minutes faster” show that you think like someone who takes ownership.
And that’s what gets noticed.
Recruiters remember people who create change, not people who just “complete tasks.”
And here’s something most people don’t realize:
When you start rewriting your resume with impact in mind, you yourself start understanding your value better.
You stop feeling like “I just did basic work” and start recognizing that even small improvements matter.
This mindset is what separates a resume that gets ignored from one that gets shortlisted.
