A small LinkedIn trick to find jobs before they get crowded
Most people search for jobs on LinkedIn the same way.
They go to the Jobs tab, type a role, scroll through the results, and apply.
By the time a role shows up there, hundreds of people may have already seen it.
There’s another way to spot openings a little earlier.
Use the Posts filter in LinkedIn search.
Here’s how it works:
Go to the LinkedIn search bar and type the role you’re looking for.
For example:
“backend engineer hiring”
“data analyst hiring”
“frontend developer hiring”
Then click Posts instead of Jobs.
Now change the filter to Latest.
What you’ll see are posts from:
– hiring managers
– team leads
– recruiters
– employees sharing openings from their teams
These posts often appear before the job listing spreads widely.
Sometimes the hiring manager themselves writes something like:
“We’re expanding the backend team”
“Looking for a data analyst to join our group”
These posts usually receive fewer applications at first because they aren’t part of the main job search results yet.
If you see a post like this, two useful things happen.
First, you know exactly who is connected to the hiring process.
Second, if you apply or message someone, you can reference that post.
Something simple like:
“I saw your post about expanding the backend team and wanted to learn more about the role.”
This gives context and shows that your message isn’t random.
It also tells the reader that you noticed their team specifically, not just a generic job listing.
Most people only search the Jobs tab.
The Posts filter often shows where hiring conversations are happening earlier.
