A small LinkedIn trick to find people who actually reply to messages
When people send cold messages on LinkedIn, they usually focus on writing the perfect message.
But the bigger factor is often who you send it to.
A useful trick is to first check how active someone is on LinkedIn before messaging them.
Here’s how you can do it:
Open the person’s profile and scroll down to the Activity section.
Look at the last few posts, comments, or reactions.
You’re trying to answer a simple question: Has this person interacted on LinkedIn in the last couple of weeks?
If the last activity was many months ago, there’s a good chance they don’t check LinkedIn often.
In those cases, even a well-written message might sit unread.
On the other hand, if someone has recently liked posts, commented, or shared something, it usually means they are active and more likely to see messages.
You can take this one step further.
When you send the message, briefly mention something connected to their activity.
For example:
“I saw your comment about scaling backend systems last week…”
or
“I noticed your team recently posted about expanding the data team…”
This does two things:
First, it shows that your message isn’t random.
Second, it connects your message to something they were already thinking about.
Most people send cold messages without checking activity at all.
A quick look at someone’s recent activity can help you focus on people who are more likely to read and respond.
