A simple job-search trick to know if a company is actually hiring
One common frustration in job search is applying to roles that never seem to move.
The posting stays online for weeks, but no one hears back.
There’s a small check you can do before spending too much time on an application.
Search the company on Google and type:
“Company name + careers”
or
“Company name + jobs”
Open the careers page on the company’s website and compare it with the listing you saw on a job board.
Sometimes you’ll notice something interesting:
– The role exists on the job board but not on the company’s own careers page
– The description looks very outdated
– The role appears to have been reposted multiple times
This can indicate that the listing might be:
– a pipeline posting
– an old listing still circulating
– or a role that is not actively being filled right now
On the other hand, if the role appears on the company’s official careers page and looks recently updated, it’s usually a better signal that the team is actively hiring.
This quick comparison takes only a minute but helps you avoid putting a lot of effort into applications that may no longer be moving.
Job search often becomes easier when you spend a little time checking whether a role is active before applying.
