Most people think job hunting is about working harder.
In reality, it’s about reducing randomness.
When applications are scattered, follow-ups are forgotten, and prep is unfocused, even strong candidates feel stuck.
What helps is building a simple, repeatable system.
Step 1: Decide how you’ll search (before you apply)
Don’t open job portals randomly.
Decide:
Which roles you’re targeting
Which locations or work modes you’re open to
How many applications you’ll send per day (2–5 is enough)
This removes decision fatigue.
Step 2: Apply with light intention, not perfection
You don’t need to match every requirement.
Apply when:
You meet ~60–70% of the role
You can point to one relevant project or experience
Before hitting apply, ask:
“Can I explain in two lines why I fit this role?”
If yes, apply and move on.
Step 3: Track just enough to stay sane
Use a simple tracker:
Company
Role
Date applied
Follow-up done (yes/no)
That’s all.
This helps you follow up once (after 7–10 days) and avoid duplicate applications.
Step 4: Review in batches, not daily
Daily checking creates anxiety.
Instead:
Review after every 10–15 applications
Look for patterns
No replies → resume clarity issue
Interviews but no offers → explanation or interview structure issue
Fix one thing at a time.
Step 5: Prepare only when there’s a signal
Interview scheduled? Prepare deeply.
No response yet? Don’t over-prepare.
Preparation tied to real opportunities is far more effective than endless studying.
