One underrated interview skill is knowing…

how to make your answers feel real instead of rehearsed.
A lot of candidates prepare so much that their answers start sounding robotic — perfectly structured, but emotionally flat and generic. Interviewers can usually sense when someone is reciting memorized lines.
Instead of trying to sound “perfect,” focus on sounding genuine and involved in what you’re talking about.

When explaining a project or experience:
talk about what interested you
mention a challenge that frustrated you
explain what you enjoyed figuring out
For example, instead of just saying:
“I optimized the backend performance”

You could say:
“One thing that was tricky was reducing API response time when multiple requests hit together. I spent quite a bit of time debugging that and eventually optimized the query flow.”
That small human detail makes your answer feel authentic.
Interviewers remember candidates who sound like they actually built, explored, struggled, and learned — not candidates who sound like they memorized interview templates from the internet.
You don’t need dramatic stories or overly polished answers. Clear thinking + genuine involvement is usually far more convincing.
