If a company reposts the same role, apply again

A lot of people hesitate here.

They think, “I already applied once. Applying again will look desperate.”

It doesn’t.

When a company reposts a role, it usually means one of three things:

  • They didn’t find the right fit yet

  • Shortlisted candidates dropped out

  • The role is still genuinely open

Recruiters expect fresh applications when a role is reposted. In fact, reposting is often a signal that they want more candidates.

Your profile today might land very differently than it did last time.

  • Maybe the recruiter has changed

  • Maybe the team’s requirements are clearer now

  • Maybe your resume is stronger

  • Maybe your application simply gets seen this time

Also, most ATS systems don’t penalize reapplications. Many recruiters don’t even remember individual resumes from weeks ago unless they stood out strongly.

One important thing though:

If you’re reapplying, make a small improvement.

  • Tweak your resume slightly

  • Highlight a more relevant project

  • Use keywords from the updated JD

Don’t overthink it.

Reapplying is not desperation — it’s persistence.

Many people miss good roles simply because they assume “no response” means “no chance.”

In reality, it often just means “not seen yet.”

If the role is live again, take the hint and apply.
