Stop Waiting to Feel “Ready”

I know the job hunt can feel messy sometimes. You’re applying everywhere, filling out forms, clicking links, tweaking your resume — and by the end of the week, you’ve forgotten where you even applied. Then, when someone calls, you have to quickly check your email to remember what the role was about.

If that’s been happening to you, trust me, you’re not alone.

Almost every student or fresher I talk to goes through this — applying to tons of roles but not tracking anything.

If you really want to see progress, you need to stop treating your job search like a random to-do and start treating it like a mini project.

And projects need systems.

Just start small — open a Google Sheet or Notion page and create a few columns:

  1. Company Name

  2. Role

  3. Link to Apply / Job Post

  4. Date You Applied

  5. Status (Applied / Interview / Rejected / Offer)

  6. Follow-Up Date or Contact Person

That’s it.

Every time you apply somewhere, take 30 seconds to log it.

Why? Because after a few weeks, you’ll start to notice patterns.

Maybe startups respond more than big companies.

Maybe companies where you’ve sent a personal note to the recruiter actually reply faster.

Or maybe most of your callbacks come from roles where your resume matched the skills 80%+.

You can’t see these insights unless you track them.

And here’s another thing most people miss — tracking also keeps you motivated.

When you have it written down, you can actually see how far you’ve come. You’ll realize, “Hey, I’ve applied to 25 roles this month. Even though 5 didn’t work out, 3 of them replied — that’s still progress.”

That little visibility changes everything.

You stop feeling like you’re shouting into the void and start feeling like you’re running your own process — with intention.

It’s such a simple shift, but it’s powerful.

You’ll be more confident, organized, and in control of your job search.

So if you haven’t already, take 10 minutes today.

Open a sheet. Add your last few applications.

You’ll thank yourself a month later when you don’t have to dig through your email for “which IBM role was that again?”

Trust me — you’re not just applying for jobs; you’re building momentum.

And this one small habit will make sure you never lose track of it.
