End the interview cleanly (this part is more important than people think)

Most candidates relax at the end.
That’s exactly why this moment stands out.

The last 60 seconds often decide:

  • how memorable you are

  • how professional you feel

  • whether the interviewer advocates for you later

Here’s how to close an interview properly:

Step 1: Don’t rush the goodbye
When the interviewer says “That’s all from my side,” don’t jump to “thank you” immediately.
Take a small breath.
This keeps the ending calm and confident.

Step 2: Give a one-line appreciation
Not generic praise.
Tie it to the conversation.

Examples:

“Thanks for walking me through the team’s work today.”

“I appreciated the discussion around how the backend team handles scale.”

This shows you were present.

Step 3: Restate interest with a reason
One line.
Specific.

Examples:

“This role fits well with the kind of problems I’ve been working on.”

“The team structure you described is something I’d like to be part of.”

Avoid emotional language.
Keep it professional.

Step 4: Signal readiness (subtly)
You’re not begging.
You’re clarifying availability.

Examples:

“Happy to take next steps if needed.”

“Looking forward to hearing about the next round.”

Step 5: End cleanly
A simple “Thank you for your time” is enough.
No trailing explanations.
No nervous filler.

Why this works:

Interviewers remember how you made them feel at the end

A clear close makes you easier to recommend internally

Bad endings feel awkward.
Clean endings feel employable.
