A small habit that changes how your profile is read

Something I’ve noticed after seeing many job searches play out.

People spend a lot of time updating resumes.
Very little time updating how they describe their current work.

There’s a subtle difference between these two lines:

“Working as a Software Engineer.”

and

“Currently handling backend APIs and database logic for internal tools.”

The first one is a title.
The second one is a picture.

When someone opens your profile or resume, they are trying to form a picture quickly.

What do you actually do every day?
Where do you spend most of your time?
What part of the system do you understand deeply?

If that isn’t clear in the first few lines of your most recent role, the reader has to guess.

And when people have to guess, they usually move on.

Try this simple exercise:

Open your resume or LinkedIn profile.
Look only at your latest role.

If someone covered your job title, would they still know what you do?

If the answer is no, rewrite the first two lines of that section to describe your actual work, not your designation.

Clear work descriptions travel further than impressive titles.
