One underrated mistake people make on LinkedIn is connecting with people and then never interacting again.


A connection alone usually does very little.
What actually helps is becoming slightly familiar over time.
For example, if you connect with a recruiter, founder, or someone from your target industry:
engage with 1–2 of their posts occasionally
leave thoughtful comments instead of generic ones
interact naturally before asking for anything

Now when you eventually message or apply, you’re not a complete stranger anymore.
This matters because people are far more likely to reply to names they’ve seen before, even briefly.
You don’t need hundreds of comments or fake networking. A few genuine interactions over time are enough to build recognition.

Another important thing:
don’t comment just to “look active.”
Good comments add:
a perspective
an observation
a small insight
or a thoughtful question

That stands out much more than:
“Great post!” or “Thanks for sharing.”
Most people try networking only when they urgently need a job.
