Stop trying to “stand out” — fit in first, then stand out slightly.

Most candidates try too hard to be unique:

Over-creative projects

Over-explaining everything

But if you don’t first match what the role expects, you get rejected before your uniqueness even matters.

First step is simple: look like a clear fit.

If it’s a backend role:

Show backend projects

Use the same tech stack mentioned

Highlight relevant experience at the top

Make the recruiter feel:

“This person fits what we asked for.”

Then add a small edge:

A cleaner project than others

Better explanation

One extra relevant idea or improvement

That’s enough.

If you skip the “fit” part and jump to “standing out,” you confuse recruiters.

And confused = rejected.

Most people either blend in completely or try too hard.
